The design was key; perfectly complementing our house, creating enjoyable, light spaces, and we were delighted with their outstanding customer service throughout - from design to completion!
Briar House, Twickenham
The skylights over the living and kitchen areas bring in plenty of light, whilst the bespoke doors to the patio, afford views over the private garden.
Jane wanted to build a new-build home for her mother in the grounds of her Grade II listed property in Twickenham. It needed to accommodate her mother’s changing needs in case wheelchair access was required later. The project needed both listed building consent and planning consent. We worked closely with Richmond Planning Department’s Conservation Officer to arrive at a mutually agreeable proposal. The project was to contrast with the traditional brick house.
The skylights over the living and kitchen areas bring in plenty of light, whilst the bespoke doors to the patio, afford views over the private garden. The property required its own utility services and we assisted with the organisation with the relevant suppliers. Jane’s mother’s dark timber antique furniture is beautifully displayed against the simple white walls and timber floors. The shower room /wet room, designed to accommodate showering whilst seated, gains light from a long glazed skylight.

The hand painted kitchen was designed to be in the heart of the house, with an island unit where the family tend to gather for breakfast, coffee mornings with friends and after work meal time conversations.
AWK listens, is client centred, innovative, well organised and an excellent project manager. She pays attention to detail. Most of all she is passionate about her work. A great Architect and example of all that is good in the profession at such a challenging time.
This is one of our favourite - and earliest - projects. With a tight budget and a small kitchen in need of updating, Nick and Rachel wanted to create an interesting kitchen extension to their terraced Victorian property in Twickenham
The first floor was changed from a standard semi detached layout to have two large bedrooms with en-suites, one with a dressing room - a more practical and comfortable arrangement for the cosmopolitan couple.
