Strawberry Hill Road Flats
Strawberry Hill, Twickenham
Flats, whether conversions from commercial to residential under Class E, or Victorian Mansion buildings split long ago, or new-build, don't have to be characterless boxes!
"Architecture:WK – what an amazing find! No obstacle too big, no attention to detail too small. Everything you could hope for, unrealistically so. But Sam and her team exceed even your unrealistic expectations! Tenacity, resolve, vision, passion, creativity, know-how, expertise, energy - you name it, you’ll find it. I am deeply grateful for what Architecture:WK has already done for us to get us to this point where planning permission has now been granted. I can’t wait to see the plans transform into reality. Thank you Sam, and team!!! We can’t recommend you highly enough.!"
Working with large and well proportioned homes is relatively straight forward. There are more options to play with. Flats, on the other hand, more particularly conversions from commercial to residential and Class E of the Planning Regulations, can be challenging. In this case, these were existing units, charmlessly divided many years ago and in need of general updating to meet current regulations. Luckily, we were working with one of our most creative and stylish clients who knows how to understand the value of an architect's input and definitely knows how to style a space. The three flats had 'good bones' - meaning, they had sufficient space overall, just badly organised, and good window sizes as well as ceiling heights. Re-arranging the layouts within the footprint created better proportioned spaces and an ability to make the most of the height where it was available.
We helped with finishes and fittings, joinery and kitchen units design (built by the on-site contractor) as well as the usual layout, regulations and structure and fabric repairs. The end result speaks of a wonderful collaboration between client, contractor and architect - just as it should be.
